How do I create?

When watching the Ken Robinson TED talk in school, I thought the quote he said, "We don't grow into creativity, we get educated out of it" made a lot of sense to me and I could really relate to it. Throughout all of high school my favorite classes were Visual Arts and Computer Media studies. My parents, classmates and even teachers told me all the time to focus more on other subjects because those classes that I enjoyed most were not as important. Classes such as math, science and english are weighed more than Visual Arts and Computer Media studies because not only are they mandatory but are also referred to as the "smarter classes". In grade 12 I decided to listen to my gut and go with what makes me happy. Why have a career in something you do not enjoy just because it makes more money? I rather have a career doing something I love to do even if it means making less money.

When discussing the Robinson talk, I noticed that we are all taught at such a young age to not make mistakes. How does this way of learning help us? It doesn't! The only way you will learn in anything you do is by making mistakes, mistakes should be embraced. In school we are taught that mistakes should not be made yet no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, its a part of life, growing and learning. Our class then discussed on the different ways that we learn. I learn by making mistakes, experience, by doing, seeing and moving. I cannot sit and read a textbook when I study, Its just not me. I learn so much better by actually doing it.

When listening to the excerpted 100 Habits list, I noticed that learning plays a big part in creativity. Of the suggestions discussed from the 100 Habits list I related most to: travel as much as possible, keep creativity alive by any means and you are what you eat. Traveling is number 1 for me because I would love to see different parts of the world. I have always been fascinated by culture and architecture, I think it would benefit me a lot in my creativity to see how others have created around the world. Keeping creativity is important because you should practice it when ever you can. To keep your mind active and in that creative stage. It should become a part of your daily routine, even something simple such as sketching will help a lot. You are what you eat is also helpful because making food out of ingredients allows you to be creative. Adding ingredients you might not know that will make your meal taste good would be like an experiment each time you cook.

The 3 habits that I choose have a lot to say about my creative process. It goes back to prove that I learn by making mistakes, experiences, by doing, seeing and moving. In the context of creativity and design I am most of all a visual person. Which is why I am glad I went with my gut in gr 12 and choose the career path that I did. Classes such as Visual Arts and Computer Media studies should not be viewed as worthless because they get you to think and use your mind like math and science cannot. In Visual Arts and Computer Media studies there is no right and wrong because you are using your imagination. In Math and Science you are either right or wrong, how can you expect to learn and grow when you cannot embrace your mistakes?

Mr. President

During the election campaign Barack Obama's  face was plastered on televisions, magazines, newspapers, ads and in art pieces. This art piece is one of my favorites and I love the contrast of colors. It has a pop art feel to it and the colors used represent the colors of the American flag.

As you all know, today was a huge day in history. Im so excited to be living in a time where anything is possible. It just makes me believe that you should never give up on your dreams no matter what. Who would of thought that the new President of US would be black? Looking back at history it would be seen as impossible. But its happened and Im living through history.

I hope things do actually change like how Mr. President has been quoting in his speeches because we all know as Canadians sooner or later any impact will also affect us. Hopefully the economy will pick up and the future will become brighter for all us. The best thing to do now is too keep dreaming and never stop believing.

KanYe's futuristic city

I had the urge of downloading some new songs for my ipod today because my songs were a little too out of date. I began browsing some of my favorite artists websites to listen to some of their new songs. Thats when i saw a website that really caught my attention. It was singer Kanye Wests website and it is probably one of the most interesting music artists pages I've seen. Kanye West himself in my opinion is such an interesting artist so its no wonder that his website would be so unique. The design of the website has a japanese style to it with a blend of futuristic graphics. The scene is of a city and the graphics also move. I think the overall design of the website is so fascinating and really creative. Check it out:

Design is?

Design is an expression of emotion using creativity and a goal in mind to communicate with others. A plan and research is often needed to create a design and because of this it gives great meaning and purpose. It is limitless and is general because design is everywhere.

Design is important because it can touch people from within. It is its own language in itself and sometimes it does not need an explanation. You can sense the emotion and reason behind it when looking at it and it can affect you greatly. It is another form of communication that people may not be able to express with words but through their creativity. An individual who has had great thought to construct it creates design. It is not created from thin air because it is created from a source and sometime various ones.

When I experience good design I want to share it with the world. It fascinates me and it can occupy my mind and thoughts for a long time if it has truly spoken to me in a way other designs have not. It excites me to know that I am living in a time where everything is affected by design, because it is a lifestyle.

I chose to be a designer in grade 9 because I am not only a visual person but I enjoy using my creative mind. I took art every year in high school and I loved it. I always had the urge to express myself through design. Using my creative skills to tackle on a problem has always interest me.

When I design I feel a great accomplishment but most of all happiness because I enjoy it. I learn about design more each day and my knowledge has helped me with my creations. I love planning and then executing my ideas to create my designs. It allows me to think outside the box because with design you can be as creative as you can be. Design is about using your imagination and letting your mind run free.
